Denny Pondo has always been one of my biggest supporters and motivators. After every surgery, chemo and setback he is there to pick me up and get me back at it. He puts challenges in front of me that I think “this man is crazy, I can’t do that” but then I do it!  He believes in me when I do not have the strength to believe in myself.

My fitness journey began in August, 2002. I was widowed at a young age with a young son and knew that I needed to be healthy and live a long life for him. I also felt compelled to lead by example in offering him a role model in living a healthy life. 
That is when I joined Lifetime Fitness. I hired a trainer and began to learn all aspects of living a healthy life. Shortly after, I met my new husband who was also   working out regularly. He too, supported me on my journey. Throughout two additional pregnancies I workout regularly and was able to bounce back quickly to healthy body weight having done so. Flash forward to 2012 when I met Denny coaching his Boot Camp at the Troy Lifetime. That type of fitness had me hooked. I have been a member of CrossFit Unphased from the day they opened. Over the last 6 years, I have grown in my abilities to run better, use heavier weights and challenge myself to new heights. In the last 5 months, I changed up my eating,adding new supplements and working out at the box 3 times a week, I  have lost 12 lbs. This is truly a life style change that you have to be committed to mentally and physically. I give it everything  I have when I come to class as I am only cheating myself if I don’t. I feel amazing and cannot thank Denny enough for being a part of my fitness journey.

One year ago I was 24 pounds heavier. I was wearing 2/3 sizes larger and I felt horrible. I was working out regularly but it was time to change my diet and in turn, I knew that would change my performance level at bootcamp. I became connected with an Isagenix coach and after I did my research I decided to commit to that path. It has completely changed everything for me. I feel better than ever and I’m stronger than before. I am fueling my body with the proper nutrition and that gives me the power to challenge myself in our bootcamp classes that Denny creates. These classes are so important to me that I actually plan my day around them. I really love the group support. You just don’t get that from a Jillian Michaels dvd in your living room or a random fitness class at LifeTime. Denny’s workouts are fun and challenging at the same time. He is very encouraging and is skilled at changing it up so that we never get bored. This June will be 3 years that I started at Crossfit Unphased and I can honestly say that I am a different person today than I was then. I have a lot to attribute this to, and bootcamp is at the top of the list.

I have been training with Denny for about 3 ½ years.  I came to him at 48 years old, 230 lbs overweight, borderline diabetic, High Triglycerides and having Metabolic Syndrome.  I remember when I has in my 30’s and being able to almost Max my military Physical Test (90 pushup in 2 minutes, 80 sit-ups in 2 minutes and 13:10 2 mile run).  I knew I needed to make some changes.  I started off with Crossfit training.  I could barely make it thru the work out but Denny was always a word of encouragement.  The one thing I was impressed by is that he would have me work with light to no weight on lifting movements until I would have the technique down.  Once he saw me doing the moves correctly then I was allowed to add weight.  He would also have substitution move for me if he saw that I was having difficulties with certain movements.  These alternatives would help me gain the stability needed to perform the original moves.


After 1 ½ years I started training with him one on one along with the group classes.  We established some of my goals and then proceeded to move towards the goals one step at a time.


At age 50 I was in the best shape that I had been in in 30 years.


This year my Weight is down to 200 lbs,  it may not seem a lot of loss but muscle weights more than fat.  No more prediabetic, no more metabolic syndrome and my triglycerides are back in line without the use of any Statin Drugs.  This is because I was able to work with Denny to make lifestyle changes and had someone to help hold me accountable.  There were times I had to stop working out because of Work/Life being busy. During these times I would get texts from him just checking up on me.  When I would get back into working out there was no condemnation, just the willingness to help get back on track.


In the past I did not see the value in personal training but that view has now changed.
